Wait! There's still more to being an artist than just painting!

12. Sign up now as space is limited...cheap, affordable, professional instruction.  30 eager beginner painters ready to hit the band wagon.  Aha! Good Karma has found her way to me!  This is it!  Must begin classes immediately with professional who can give me a few pointers.

13.  Take out dinners only on class night.  Must focus on painting.  No time to be boring housewife. The world of One Woman Shows, Magazine features, spotlights and hot lights awaits...this could lead to something...hummm...maybe a chance to be on Oprah!

14. Ready, set, GO!  Teacher must be amazing to handle all 30 of us painters at once.  Very impressive!  Money well spent.

15.  Sit through 30 minutes of "What not to do. What not to mix.  What notions to throw out of head." Bored, wounded and confused..."What one should do" keeps flashing near restroom door.  Must go check that out!

16.  Eureka moment!  Teacher comments that you have "it."  What is "it?"  Is it catching?  Do I have fever?  Has anyone noticed?  All this conversation is making me hungry for take out in back seat of car.  Oh, now I get "it." The outfit...thrift store aka. artist statement must have impressed her as I've barely laid in my first brushstroke.  She's genius I tell you!  She can spot the artist in me.  I have "IT!"

17.  6 weeks...no sleep. Exhausted from coming up with "it" wardrobe.  Worried that I must take additional college courses to be able to recognize "it."  This could set me back from becoming the famous artist I should become.  "IT" keeps creeping into my dreams..."IT" won't leave me alone.  Somebody please stop "it!"

18.  Chocolate brownies and goodbyes.  Whew!  Glad that course is over.  Must paint...bigger, louder, brighter...more confident strokes...use more white...learn to stretch perfect canvas...must purchase tools and materials.

19.  Listen to inner voice..."Seek and you shall find better instructor"...private lessons? Only way to go as last masterpiece was tossed in garbage.  Reason?  Drink of water in middle of night sent chills to spine as whites of glowing eyes totally caused freak out...too much white...have I managed to summon the Blair Witch with my expert skills?  Yup, gonna throw this masterpiece away and find new instructor immediately!

 20.  First, purchase palette knives...3 reasons:  Feel urge to waste expensive tubes of paint trying my hand at impasto 2.  Excellent tool for scraping off entire canvas from experimentation with impasto painting 3.  Great weapon if Blair Witch appears again in middle of night.

Here are the steps to becoming a career artist...the order is not necessarily correct.  Of course, you only find out after you have completed them!

l.  Decide to become an artist.

2.  Purchase oil paints, canvas, brushes, and easel.

3. Go back to store to purchase solvent, medium and varnish.

4.  Hit Kmart for paper supplies.

5.  Find place to paint in house.

6.  Clean out room. Store items in other rooms.  Decorate studio to look really funky so that all visitors know you are eccentric, odd, weird...an artist.

7. Trip to thrift store to get the funky stuff to decorate with.  Hit a few garage sales along the way.

8.  Shop for wardrobe. Must look like an artist to be an artist, to let everyone know you are an artist.

9. Find time to paint...before work? During 1 hour lunch break? After work?  Before bed? During the night when everyone is asleep or when all other great artists are painting?

10. Must get books...go to library...go to used bookstores....visit new bookstores to decide you cannot afford all of the "How to Get Your Painting Grove On" books. 

11. Forget the books...YOU'VE been an artist since childhood...ahh that first big box of 64 Crayola's hooked you...you were called...you, you, you were found...searched out because You are special...you were an artist since birth!
